Calling other people on Skype is free so you can talk whenever you want to – not just on special occasions. Call to check in with mum when you’re travelling, give your partner a goodnight kiss via video call when they’re away on business, or use it for your regular calls and catch ups. And, if you know people who don’t use Skype you can call them too at really low rates.

If you're looking for a free yet capable FTP program, check out this offering from CoffeeCup. We liked the program's intuitive interface, although you will be forced to endure several advertising banners. It wasn't immediately clear how to connect to the FTP server, but after a brief trip to the help files, we had success in mere seconds. In our tests, the program did its job just fine, though we did notice a few quirks. For example, the program does not ask whether or not you want to overwrite files and simply does so automatically. In terms of features, CoffeeCup Free FTP supports secure SSH transfers but won't let you schedule downloads. However, we were glad to note that transferring files didn't affect our PC's performance. Although the program doesn't have some advanced features that seasoned users will desire, most folks won't go wrong with this free FTP utility.

Adobe Flash Player 10.1
Adobe's latest version of the Flash Player browser plug-in is just as trouble-free as previous versions, existing unobtrusively in your system until Web-based animations, games, or ubiquitous Flash ads require its services.
The latest version downloads and installs quickly, and will probably always require a browser restart. Our tests turned up nothing to make us scratch our heads, and upgrading from version 9 to the current one has fixed for many people a bug that caused embedded video to freeze.
